2017 was the year of mistakes, failures, successes, smiles, frowns and opportunities. Learning from what went wrong is essential to make 2018 a better year.
In this post, I would like to share with you my FIVE belated goals for 2018. Just to let you know, I got many goals for this year but this is just five of them. I’ll try to be brief and to the POINT!
1. Protect the five precepts
Not sure if you guys already know but I am a Buddhist – well someone who tries to be a true Buddhist. A true Buddhist is one who actually practices the teachings of the Lord Buddha (lord meaning nobleman). The five precepts is simply a code of ethics/morals for lay Buddhists to practice. By practicing these precepts, we avoid harming ourselves as well as others.
Last year I did not practice the five precepts well. I need to make progress this year and value it like a diamond. The precept I protected the most was the fifth one and third one. Despite this, all of these precepts should be protected because all of them are detrimental to one’s life equally.
2. Study Effectively
I need to change my study method. My previous study method was poor and didn’t help me to remember content more so change in study method would be advantageous. Because I am a slow writer, I think it is best to avoid writing lectures notes by hand and instead, type notes on my laptop. This would save time. I need to avoid distractions immensely, this is affecting my performance at studying and also wasting my own time. I am thinking of using flashcards to study when exams are near. Because I am a visual learner, flashcards may be beneficial.
3. Gain Work Experience
What is missing in my resume is work experience. Work experience in my country is a key determinant for getting a job so need to apply for jobs and obtain the necessary knowledge and skills. Fortunately, end of last year I was able to get a phone interview for a job I applied to and now waiting on the outcome.
4. Eat Healthy
Your choices determine the result. Same applies to my food choices in 2017. I choose to eat unhealthy food immoderately e.g. pasta, potato chips, biscuits, ice cream. I can’t stop lunch/dinner outings with my family but I can stop unhealthy food from entering my mouth. I need to be more active this year, exercise more and avoid staying on my desk long.
5. Wake up Early
The day feels wasted when I wake up late. Waking up early obviously means more time in your hands and as a student, I need time to study. Attending morning classes would motivate me to wake up early.
